Hi Dave!

Thanks for creating this 8 week conversation platform to look at responsibility in our communities. For me is a very important topic, I want to foster digital literacy in Mexico and I need to continue preparing myself to learn how to open and sustain that.

I'm a CCK08 participant. I'm feeling like the donkey in the Shrek movie, jumping up and down asking: "What did I miss?, What did I miss?" I would love to participate but I have no idea about how to go about it. I'll be paying attention to find where to subscribe.

See you around. A big hug from Mexico. Maru

Tried to post some links - and my comment seemed to disappear, maybe I included some format not acceptable in the comment field.. Anyway, I'm a CCK08 participant and looking forward to a great 8 weeks completing the CCK08. Thanks for creating this take-off!

ps. will return on the links, need to sleep now (getting midnight soon at my East European time zone)

I love this idea as we look at the various roles we play in our various communities. From connector to observer to contributor, each role carries with it responsibilities to each other and to the community as a whole. And I expect community sustainment and/or renewal will emerge as a topic as well.

Looking forward to the conversation!

That's a really great start to the conversation Harold... I think the great value of hardin's essay to this discussion is that it produces strong responses in people who are passionate about the power of communities.

Interesting article. And I'm thinking of excellent communities like the apache foundation as clear counterexamples as well. thanks for kicking us off.

I'd like to suggest a read of The Myth of the Tragedy of the Commons:

I would also strongly recommend Dave Pollard's book, Finding the Sweet Spot, as an excellent resource.
